Niche reportAmazon US · 18 Sep 2026

Same puzzle, faith audience, and not one indie book on the page.

Query: “bible word search for adults large print” · paperback · Amazon.com · about 10,000 competing books

Put this beside the ordinary large-print word search report and the difference is stark. There, self-published books from 2024 hold the top ranks. Here, every listing on page one belongs to a publisher.

Brain Games alone holds three slots, at ranks 878, 3,137 and 11,684, with 1,745 to 3,122 reviews each.

The shelf sells extremely well — rank 878 is deep bestseller territory for a puzzle book — which is precisely why the publishers are here and not on the plain word-search shelf.

What the numbers say

What I would actually do

Skip unless faith is yours

Doing this well requires knowing the material. Outsiders produce books that read as outsiders' work, and this readership notices.

If you enter, take a narrower book

Brain Games owns “Words of Jesus” and “Psalms”. An untaken book of the Bible is a smaller, defensible shelf.

Match 192 pages at $9

That is the standard here, and undercutting publishers on scale printing is not a plan.

Identical production work, and there the door is open.

Where these numbers come from, and what they are not

Every figure was read off Amazon.com on 18 September 2026: the organic results for that query with sponsored slots removed, then each listing's own page for rank, review count, publication date and length. Prices are US list prices at that moment and move constantly. Best Sellers Rank is a live position, not a sales figure — a rank read on a Tuesday can differ from the same rank on Sunday. “Indie” means the listing shows no traditional publisher, the closest public signal for a self-published title; it will occasionally mislabel a small press. Only paperbacks were counted. And know the width of the lens: this is the first page of one query — eight organic listings — not a census of the niche. A shelf that looks closed to newcomers here may be open on a neighbouring phrase, and seasonality is not accounted for: gift-driven categories rank differently in September than in November. One snapshot is not a trend.
